Benefits support programs

The 75th anniversary celebration of establishment of the office of Cook County public defender was to be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Westin Michigan Avenue Hotel, Chicago.

The black-tie Friends of the Cook County Public Defender event, chaired by Brian Crowe and Larry Rogers Sr., was planned as a benefit for the American Cancer Association and hurricane disaster relief.

A book signing was scheduled for the keynote speaker, Harvard Law Prof. Charles J. Ogletree Jr.

The Lake County Bar Foundation will hold a benefit reception for the Wayne B. Flanigan Memorial Scholarship Fund from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Cubby Bear on Milwaukee Avenue in Lincolnshire.

Contributions to the fund in memory of an LCBA past president are tax-deductible. Call (847) 244-3143.

The 25th anniversary dinner of the Lawyers' Assistance Program will take place Friday, Oct. 28, in the Empire Room of the Palmer House Hilton, Chicago. Call (312) 726-6607 for reservations.

Carl H. Rolewick Awards will be presented to ISBA President Bob Downs and CBA President Michael B. Hyman. The John Powers Crowley Award will be given to Judge Daniel G. Welter. Keynote speaker is Supreme Court Justice Thomas R. Fitzgerald.

The annual fall benefit of the Chicago Bar Foundation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Field Museum. Family entertainment, access to the museum and a light buffet dinner are planned. Call (312) 554-1204.
