Abuse, neglect issues are on Nov. 11 seminar agenda An ISBA Law Ed Series seminar titled “Back to Basics: Abuse, Neglect, Dependency” will be presented by the Child Law Section Council on Friday, Nov. 11, at the Northfield Inn Suites Conference Center, Springfield. Program coordinators and moderators are section council chair and newsletter editor Dixie L. Peterson of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, Chicago, and council member Kathryn A. Bischoff of Rockford. The seminar will begin at 9 a.m. with an outline of DCFS Investigations: What gets it started, what is the process, what are the potential results, and what are the current trends? Other topics are: 9:45 a.m. – Administrative Hearings: Issues and Procedures, including expunging indicated reports, ACR appeals, and appealing administrative decisions. 10:40 a.m. – Court-Appointed Special Advocates. 11:20 a.m. – Children Advocacy Centers, with Sue Plote, director of the DeKalb Family Service Agency. 1 p.m. – Adjudicatory Phase of an Abuse, Neglect, Dependency Case, with assistant Winnebago County state's attorney Pamela S. Wells of Rockford. 1:35 p.m. – Disposition Phase of an Abuse, Neglect, Dependency Case, with section council past chair Ellen P. Pauling of DeKalb. 2:10 p.m. – Permanency Hearings Outside Cook County, with 11th Circuit Judge Stephen R. Pacey of Paxton, a member of the ISBA Assembly.
