Swiss lawyer speaks Nov. 11 on international arbitration Five ISBA sections are sponsors of a complimentary program, “Current Issues in International Chamber of Commerce Arbitration,” that will take place from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, in the Chicago Regional Office. The speaker is Robert Briner, a Swiss lawyer who is serving his third three-year term as chair of the International Chamber of Commerce Court of Arbitration, which reviews awards in cases brought to the court for dispute resolution to facilitate enforcement by the parties. At the time of Briner's re-election in January 2003, the court had 113 international business and legal professionals representing 77 countries. “The number of nationalities represented by ICC court members is unrivaled,” he said. “The variety of professional backgrounds from which they come and the diversity of legal systems they represent has no equal.” Sponsors of the ISBA program are the Alternative Dispute Resolution, Corporate Law Departments, International and Immigration Law, Commercial Banking and Bankruptcy Law, and Corporation, Securities and Business Law Sections. Briner's appearance is being arranged by Lawrence S. Schaner of Jenner & Block, chair of the Midwest subcommittee of the U.S. Council for International Business Arbitration Committee. Please register by Nov. 7 by sending an e-mail to tpotter@isba.org. |
