Whitney T. Carlisle and Paul E. Stockert III have joined the Chicago real estate tax law firm of McCracken, Walsh & de La Van. Carlisle was deputy supervisor of the Real Estate Tax Division of the Cook County state's attorney's office. Stockert was a partner in Stockert & Goldstein.

Keren L. Weiss has joined GoodSmith, Gregg & Unruh, Chicago, as an associate. She practiced previously with Jenner & Block in Chicago and Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering in Washington, D.C.

Zaldwaynaka “Z” Scott, a past president of the Black Women Lawyers Association of Chicago, has joined Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw as a partner in commercial litigation, internal corporate investigations, compliance counseling and white collar criminal defense.

A former federal prosecutor, Scott was executive inspector general for the governor of Illinois. She received a Founder's Award in 2004 from the CBA Alliance for Women.

New practices established

Wilbur F. Pell III, a former member of the ISBA Assembly and past president of the Illinois Bar Foundation, is the principal of Pell Dispute Resolution Services, 714 Greenleaf Ave, Wilmette 60091, telephone (847) 744-0636, e-mail pell3@earthlink.net.

Pell retired recently after 16 years as chief litigation counsel to Kraft Foods. Before that, he was a litigator and labor arbitrator for Navistar.

The Northbrook firm of Shapiro & Kreisman and the Chicago firm of Fisher and Fisher merged Oct. 1 to form the new firm of Fisher and Shapiro. Founded in 1971, both firms have represented secured creditors in mortgage foreclosures, bankruptcies, evictions and closings.

The announcement was made by partners Barry M. Fisher and Gerald M. Shapiro. Elizabeth Kaplan Meyers is managing attorney of the combined firm at 4201 Lake Cook Road, Northbrook 60062, telephone (847) 291-1717. The Chicago office will be maintained.

The international law firm of Bryan Cave plans to double the size of its Chicago office at 161 N. Clark St. to 35,000 square feet, and its 26 lawyers will occupy the new space by the end of this year.

Jeffrey W. Morof, former managing partner of Bryan Cave's Los Angeles office, has been managing partner in Chicago since late last year.

Crystal Lake attorney Jack B. Fishman, president and owner of Novare, a specialized bankruptcy services firm, has sold its stock to EPIQ Systems. He continues as president and manager of Novare's operations.
