Bahr addresses LWV forum on judicial issues

ISBA President Irene F. Bahr and Ap--pellate Justice James A. Knecht of the 4th District are among speakers for the forum, “Democracy at Stake: Safeguarding an Impartial Judiciary,” on Saturday, Oct. 28, in Bloomington.

The League of Women Voters of McLean County, Greater Peoria and Champaign County will conduct the program from 8:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at the Interstate Center, 2301 W. Market St. A wine and cheese reception will follow.

Co-sponsors include the Champaign, McLean and Peoria County Bar Associ-ations.

Justice Knecht will give the opening plenary keynote address. Other morning speakers are Edwin C. Yohnka, communications director for ACLU-Illinois, and Mary McQueen, president of the National Center for State Courts.

A panel discussion, “Judiciary Cam-paign Funding,” will feature Cindy Canary, director of the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform, and Ed Murnane, president of the Illinois Civil Justice League.

Bahr's address to the afternoon plenary will be followed by a panel discussion, “Media and the Judiciary,” with Colleen Reynolds of WJBC radio, Brent Lonteen of WMBD-TV, and John Foreman, editor of the Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette.
