ISBA will help museum honor Sandra Day O'Connor Oct. 28

The Illinois State Bar Association and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation will sponsor a Springfield dinner on Saturday, Oct. 28, to honor retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor with the foundation's inaugural Lincoln Leadership Prize.

The award recognizes exceptional men and women for lifetimes of service in the Lincoln tradition. Values include strength of character, individual conscience and unwavering commitment to the defining principles of democracy.

Illinois Supreme Court Justices Rita B. Garman and Anne M. Burke, along with retired justice Mary Ann G. McMorrow, are honorary chairs of the event.

Reservations, at $250 per person, for the 7:30 p.m. black-tie dinner in the rotunda of the Presidential Museum may be made by contacting Estie Karpman at (217) 558-8877 or ekarpman@alplm.org.

For an additional $250 per person, dinner guests may also attend a VIP reception at 6 p.m. in the Lincoln reception room of the museum.

ISBA Assembly member Russell W. Hartigan will receive the 2006 Community Service Award from the DesPlaines Valley Boy Scout Council during a breakfast Oct. 20 at LaGrange Country Club. He will be honored for his tireless volunteer work on behalf of youths in Lyons Township.

William J. Borah of Homewood, past chair of the ISBA Labor and Employment Law Section Council, has been elected vice president of the Screen Actors Guild of the U.S. Northern Region. He is also a delegate to the Illinois AFL-CIO convention.

ISBA past president Terrence J. Lavin of the Lavin Law Offices and John B. Kralovec of Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz, both of Chicago, have been named Fellows of the American College of Trial Lawyers.

LaGrange attorney G. Grant Dixon III has been inducted into The Million Dollar Advocates Forum of trial lawyers who have won substantial verdicts and settlements.

Charles H. Cole of Schuyler, Roche & Zwirner, Chicago, has been elected to a three-year term on the national board of Defense Research Institute. He serves as director for the six-state North Central Region.
