Midyear offers unique events

The preliminary schedule of events during the ISBA Midyear Meeting at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel in December includes three special programs in addition to continuing legal education opportunities, the Illinois Judges Association luncheon and Illinois Supreme Court dinner.

On Thursday, Dec. 7, the ISBA will conduct two unique presentations – “Restoring the Balance: The Legal Community's Role in Restorative Justice” and “Diversity Roundtable: Pipeline to the Profession.”

On Friday, Dec. 8, a joint program of the ISBA and IJA will explore the topic, “When the Media Call, Don't Hang Up!” Supreme Court Justice Anne M. Burke is the keynote speaker for the joint luncheon.

Justice Rita B. Garman will speak on behalf of her colleagues during the annual Supreme Court dinner on Friday, co-sponsored by the Chicago Bar Association.

Fellows of the Illinois Bar Foundation will bestow two special awards during a Friday breakfast. Terry Hake will be named an Honorary Fellow, and ISBA past president Chery I. Niro will receive the Distinguished Service to Law and Society Award.

Four ISBA Law Ed seminars are scheduled on Friday. The topics are Family Law, Eminent Domain, Strategies for Achieving Diversity in Your Organization, and Illinois Supreme Court Review.

Law school alumni receptions will be held Friday afternoon by The John Marshall Law School, Northern Illinois University College of Law and Southern Illinois University School of Law.

Other highlights include the opening reception on Thursday night, the joint IJA/ISBA Run for Justice early Friday (dedicated in memory of Seymour Simon), and exhibits by affiliated vendors on Friday.

The ISBA Assembly will conduct its semi-annual meeting on Saturday morning, Dec. 9.
