DuPage Red Mass slated Oct. 28

A Red Mass will be celebrated at 12 noon Sunday, Oct. 28, in St. Michael Church, Wheaton, by The St. Thomas More Society of DuPage County. Bishop J. Peter Sartain will preside.

Judges, lawyers, politicians and spouses of all faiths are invited to attend the service, which invokes the help of God as the source of wisdom, understanding, counsel and fortitude.

The traditional Red Mass began in the 13th century as the official opening of the court term in most European countries. One was first held in the United States in 1928 in New York City.

Participants in the DuPage County service are asked to wear something red. Judges should wear robes. The attorneys oath will be administered at the conclusion. A catered brunch will follow in the parish center.

Attendance at the Red Mass is free, but the brunch is $30 per person in advance. No tickets will be sold at the event.

Mail payments to The St. Thomas More Society, 26W158 Mayflower Place, Wheaton 60187. Call Eddie Wollenberg at (630) 668-2415 for more information.
