Geraghtys lauded by Appleseed Two Laureates of the ISBA Academy of Illinois Lawyers received Commitment to Justice Awards from Chicago Appleseed during its annual luncheon Oct. 2 in Chicago. They are Thomas F. Geraghty, director of the Northwestern University School of Law's Bluhm Legal Clinic, and Diane C. Geraghty, director of the Civitas ChildLaw Center at the Loyola University School of Law. Also honored was Ada Skyles, associate director of the Chapin Hall Center for Children at the University of Chicago. Thomas P. Sullivan of Jenner & Block was keynote speaker. • • • Thomas Geraghty also was honored during the Sept. 18 annual luncheon meeting of the John Howard Association of Illinois. He was keynote speaker for the Chicago event. James D. Montgomery, a Laureate of the ISBA Academy of Illinois Lawyers and member of the Senior Lawyers Section Council, is one of four attorneys who received Justice John Paul Stevens Awards from the Chicago Bar Association during an Oct. 4 luncheon. Also honored were Catherine M. Ryan, executive director of Maryville Academy and member of the ISBA Child Law Section Council; retired alderman Leon M. DePres, and Sheldon H. Roodman, retired executive director of the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago. Judge William J. Bauer of the U.S. Court of Appeals was keynote speaker at the event. • • • Chicago attorneys Richard B. Caifano and Joseph M. Gagliardo will be honored Thursday, Oct. 18, during an Italian Heritage Month celebration at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, 500 N. Michigan. Caifano and Gagliardo are past presidents of the Justinian Society. John W. Martin, former senior staff attorney of Ford Motor Co. who now represents aliens pro bono in Florida removal proceedings, received the Distinguished Alumnus Award. He is a life trustee of the university. Gregory J. Vogler of McAndrews, Held & Malloy received the Outstanding Service to DePaul Award.He has served on the law school's Intellectual Property Advisory Board since 2001. Michael G. Bergmann, director of the Pro Bono Initiative of the Public Interest Law Initiative was honored as Outstanding Young Alumnus. Recipient of an ISBA Young Lawyer of the Year Award in June, Bergmann is vice chair of the Child Law Section Council and a member of the Assembly and Committee on Delivery of Legal Services. Galva attorney Michael E. Massie, a member of the ISBA Agricultural Law Section Council, received the Perry Schneider Award from the Illinois Leadership Council for Agricultural Education on Agriculture Day at the Illinois State Fair. Massie chairs the organization and is a past chair of the Illinois Committee for Agricultural Education. He is an honorary member of Future Farmers of America. • • • Cook County Associate Judge Patricia M. Logue received the Dan Bradley Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Lesbian and Gay Law Association on Sept. 6 during its annual meeting in Chicago. An attorney with Lambda Legal for 14 years, Logue was interim legal director, senior counsel and director of constitutional litigation. • • • Urbana attorney Keith E. Fruehling, a member of the ISBA Board of Governors, received a President's Commendation during the annual meeting of the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel for chairing its annual trial academy. Also honored were Aleen R. Tiffany, Richard E. Nugent, David Levitt, R. Mark Mifflin, Michael Resis, Stephen J. Heine, Damiel K. Cray, Matthew J. Maddox, Joseph G. Feehan, Dan Wills, Timothy Fagan and David Sinn. • • • Springfield attorney Donald H. Funk has been elected board chair of the National Conference of Bar Examiners. He is counsel and secretary-treasurer of the Illinois Board of Admissions to the Bar. • • • Kenneth K. Dort of McGuireWoods, Chicago, has been re-elected to the 30-member board of the International Technology Law Association. • • • Michael Kurtzon, head of the Real Estate Finance Practice at Schwartz Cooper Chartered, Chicago, has been elected a Fellow of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys. • • • Marta A. Stein of the Chicago office of McGuireWoods has been inducted as a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. She is national co-chair of the firm's Banking Litigation Group. |
