“A Celebration of Life,” a benefit for the Shane R. Mahaffee Children's Scholarship Fund, will be conducted Wednesday, Oct. 11, by the Lake County Bar Foundation.

The reception will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. in The Country Squire, Grayslake, in remembrance of Waukegan attorney Shane Mahaffee, who died May 15 from wounds he received while on active duty as an Army Reserve captain in Iraq.

Articles about Mr. Mahaffee's military service and untimely death, and the Patriot Guard Riders who attended his funeral to shield family and friends from protesters, were published on page 17 of the June issue of the ISBA Bar News.

In lieu of an admission price, tax-deductible contributions to the scholarship fund will be accepted, with a recommended minimum of $25.
