Addictions in athletics to be aired by Munson at LAP fete

Chicago attorney Lester E. Munson (right), a writer for Sports Illustrated, will be keynote speaker a second time during the 26th annual dinner of the Lawyers' Assistance Program (LAP) next month.

When Munson spoke in 1998 on “How LAP Intervened in my Life,” it was the first by a member of the Illinois legal community whose career was affected by alcohol abuse.

On Friday, Oct. 6, he will share anecdotes from his sports journalism experiences in a presentation titled “Drugs, Alcohol and Gambling in Sports: Bonds, Backman and Rose.”

The annual reception and dinner will begin at 6 p.m. in the Empire Room of the Palmer House Hilton. Call (312) 726-6607 for reservations at $100 per person.

LAP will honor Cook County Judge Michael J. Murphy and Mary T. Robinson, administrator of the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission at the event. Murphy will accept the Hon. John Powers Crowley Award, and Robinson will receive the Carl H. Rolewick Award.
