GAL training seminar videos scheduled

A two-day seminar designed to meet the Illinois Supreme Court's educational requirements for guardians ad litem will be presented in several locations around Illinois.

Much of the program will consist of videotaped segments of “Education for Attorneys in Child Custody Matters,” an ISBA Law Ed seminar held in Collinsville in August. Local speakers will augment the video presentations.

Attendance at both days of the seminar will provide 10 hours of training, which meets the requirements of Rule 906, effective July 1, 2006.

Video presentations have been scheduled at the Northern Illinois University auditorium in Rockford on Oct. 26 and 27, and at The Chateau in Bloomington on Oct. 30 and 31. Preliminary planning is underway at other locations at the request of local court systems.

The child custody seminar was developed by the ISBA Family Law Section and Bench and Bar Section in response to adoption by the Supreme Court of the rule requiring 10 hours of training over a two-year period.

Program coordinators are Roza Gossage of Belleville, member of the Family Law Section Council, and 3rd Circuit Judge Barbara L. Crowder of Edwardsville, chair of the Bench and Bar Section Council.

Speakers include Judges Steven H. Nardulli of Springfield and Judge John W. Demling of Wheaton, Howard W. Feldman of Springfield, Dr. David Clark of Chesterfield, Mo., and Adrienne W. Albrecht of Kankakee.

Other speakers are Elizabeth Levine Levy of Edwardsville, Scott C. Colky of Chicago, Margarette Trushel of Alton, Charles J. Northrup of Springfield, and Judges Michael J. Chmiel of Woodstock, Kathleen P. Moran of Carlyle, Nelson F. Metz of Edwardsville, and William C. Norton of Belleville.

Inquiries about future presentations of the videotaped materials should be directed to the ISBA Continuing Legal Education Department at the Illinois Bar Center, 424 S. Second St., Springfield, IL 62701.
