Kane County lawyers support hurricane relief initiatives

Proceeds from a recent Kane County Bar Foundation Mardi Gras Gala in St. Charles have been donated to the New Orleans Bar Foundation in support of legal efforts to provide relief for survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

KCBF President Susan Rogaliner and past president Lisa Nyuli, an ISBA Assembly member who chaired the benefit, said the $3,000 contribution will be used for several initiatives, including costs of maintaining a legal assistance hotline.

Others are direct grants to Louisiana lawyers to establish business centers in New Orleans and St. Bernard Parishes, employment of two defense lawyers for the indigent in Orleans Parish, and long-term recovery and rebuilding of the state's legal infrastructure.

The Kane County foundation welcomes additional tax-deductible contributions for legal needs in Louisiana and other charitable activities. For details, access www.kanecountybar.org.
