Illinois history conference offers Lincoln programs The Illinois Historic Preservation Agency's ninth annual Conference on Illinois History next month in Springfield includes several programs related to the career of Abraham Lincoln. The conference on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 18-19 at the Prairie Capital Convention Center includes a Thursday banquet addressed by Washington Post political reporter David Broder. A reception at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum will precede it. A program, “Lincoln and Illinois Real Estate: The Making of a Mortgage Attorney,” is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. At 1:45 p.m. Friday, “Eye-to-Eye Wit-ness: Visual Encounter and the Memory of Abraham Lincoln” and “Abraham Lincoln in Juvenile Fiction: History and Trends” will be presented. An outreach workshop for teachers, “Lincoln's Legacy Learning Kits,” is offered Friday afternoon at the Presidential Library and Museum.
