Illinois Appellate Court
Civil Court
Continuance
Court denied Defendant's request for continuance to obtain new counsel, after court allowed Defendant's attorney to withdraw (Defendant having fired him that day, on day after that counsel attempted to reach settlement or stipulated judgment) on day trial was to begin and after 5 years of litigation. Defendant had ample opportunity to retain new counsel prior to first day of trial, and court had previously warned parties that trial would commence as set if settlement was not reached prior to trial start date. (PALMER and GORDON, concurring.)
