Business lawyers confront many competing and sometimes conflicting demands on their professional advice – all of which can give rise to difficult ethical challenges. Increased regulatory scrutiny of businesses and the growing prevalence of internal investigations have served to increase pressure on business lawyers, too. This program will review the sources of ethical rules for business lawyers and the substantial ethical issues that arise in business law practice. The program will also discuss practical techniques for resolving ethical tensions when the organization’s legal interests may substantially diverge from their officers’ and ethically sound practices in the conduct of internal investigations. The program – a live replay from the original June 8, 2010 program – is designed for all business attorneys with intermediate to advanced levels of practice experience

Highlights:
  • Determining the identity of your client and to whom you report
  • Practical tensions between organizational interests and officers’ interests
  • Reporting wrong-doing to boards of directors and to outside authorities
  • Ethics in the conduct of internal corporate investigations
  • Ethical obligations imposed by regulatory authorities, including the IRS and SEC
