How to send a message to the list

To post to the list via e-mail, send your message to name-of-list@list.isba.org (e.g.: isbacafe@list.isba.org). You can only post from the e-mail address at which you are subscribed.

You can also post messages via the listserve's web interface.

Problems posting to the list?

You received an error that says attachments aren't allowed

In order to prevent viruses, our listserve scans messages for the following suffixes (.bat .pif .exe .rar .vbs .eml .scr .zip .gif .jpg). The most common reason for this rejection is an image in your email (gif or jpg). The simplest way around this is to to post your message in Plain Text format. To do so in Outlook, in the message window, choose Format>PlainText. If you use something else, you will need to consult that program's help. Virtually every email program offers the option to send in Plain Text format. An alternate method if you can see the image is to delete it, but often the image is hidden in the code and can't be seen.

You received an error that says you need to be a member of the list to post

Make sure that you are sending from the address to which you are subscribed. Often people have more than one address and have email forwarded from one to the other. Another common situation is the email program has a different "from" address, than the "to" address. Try logging into the web interface using the email address you are sending from to see if it is the right address.

How to unsubscribe from the list

To unsubscribe follow the instructions at the bottom of any of the list messages or unsubscribe with the listserve's web interface.

How to log into the web interface

Please note that the log in system for the listserve web interface is different than the ISBA's website log in. Enter the email address that is subscribed to the list and click the OK button

Enter your password. If you don't know your password, try entering your ISBA member number. If you enter an incorrect password you will be taken to a page that has a button called Email Password. Click that, follow the instructions that are emailed to you and you will be able to reset your password to whatever you want.

Overwhelmed by the amount of email you are receiving from the list?

It is not uncommon for some of our listserves to hundreds of postings a month. Two popular options for dealing with this volume of email are:

  • Set up a folder in your email program and then set up a rule to move messages to that folder based on the subject of the email.
  • Create a separate email address for your listserve messages. There are many free email services out there. Gmail even organizes messages in threads based on the subjects making it ideal for following converstions on a listserve.
