Dr. Finkel is the Founder of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP) and co-founder of the International Psychogeriatric Association (IPA) and the American Psychiatric Association Council on Aging (APA). He has received awards for excellence in geriatric psychiatry from all three of these organizations. Previously, he has been Professor of Psychiatry at Northwestern University where he was the Director of the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry and was awarded Secondary Professorial appointments in Internal Medicine and Neurology. He has received over 9 million dollars in research and educational grant and awards funding in geriatric psychiatry. He has published over 100 papers and chapters and delivered over 1000 lectures.
Dr. Finkel is a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School.
