This program is designed as a basic introductory course for the legal practitioner seeking to expand or better understand specific areas of child law, administrative law, education law and family law.  Current issues and cases will be examined as well as legislation updates on recent amendments.

9:00 - 10:30 a.m.  Administrative Hearings in the Department of Children and Family Services
Speakers will review the process of challenging indicated reports or findings with the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and the consequences of indicated findings.  They will also present tips on challenging service plans and expungement of DCFS findings.

This session includes an analysis of cases with discrepancies involving parentage determinations. The speaker will cover whether child support should be offered and, if so, how much should be awarded.  Tax intercept proceedings will also be discussed.

Attorneys will learn about the hearing process for “special needs” determinations, from eligibility to administrative hearings.  An overview of the disciplinary process and the role of an attorney’s representation in disciplinary hearings will be presented.
