How to Become a Mentor
To share your expertise with another ISBA lawyer, please read the mentoring requirements below. If you qualify and decide to volunteer, please click on the button at the bottom of this page for the next step.
Requirements for Serving as an ISBA Volunteer Mentor
A member, in filing this application to serve as an ISBA volunteer mentor agrees to:
1. Carry, continue to carry, professional liability insurance with minimum coverage amounts of $100,000 per claim/$300,000 annual aggregate, and notify the ISBA MentorCenter Program immediately if for any reason the insurance coverage terminates or there are any changes to your insurance coverage. If you do not provide to ISBA your professional liability insurance information, ISBA can terminate your participation in the mentoring program.
2. Authorize the Mentoring Committee of the Illinois State Bar Association to verify with the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission that all information contained in the your application is accurate regarding your present registration status.
3. Accept a status of suspension from serving as a mentor when public disciplinary charges are pending against you, or during the time period when you are suspended or disbarred pursuant to Illinois Supreme Court Rule 771. You may reapply to the Mentoring Committee to serve when the complaint is either dismissed or you are permitted by the Illinois Supreme Court to resume the practice of law.
4. Abide by all the rules of the ISBA Mentoring Program and in no event hold, or claim to hold, the Association or any of its officers, members or employees liable in connection with the operation of, or use of, the information contained in the application in connection with the activities of the ISBA MentorCenter Program.
5. Commit to serve as an ISBA mentor for a period of one-year.
