For Immediate Release
Timothy Kobler, a patrol officer with the Willowbrook Police Department, will be presented with the 2005 Law Enforcement Award from the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) on Monday, May 23, at 7:00 p.m., prior to a meeting of the Willowbrook Village board of directors, at Village Hall, 7760 Quincy St., in Willowbrook.
Umberto S. Davi, a former member of the ISBA Board of Governors, and the person who nominated Kobler, will present the award. Davi is a principal of the Law Offices of Umberto S. Davi, P.C., of Western Springs.
The Law Enforcement Award was created to recognize sworn law enforcement officers for conduct that promotes justice and to distinguish those individuals whose service to the public brings honor and respect to the entire criminal justice system. The award is given sparingly to recognize those who truly excel in the field of law enforcement.
In addition to his regular duties as a patrol officer, Timothy Kobler was the officer for five years in charge of Willowbrook's Drug Awareness Resistance Education program, also referred to as D.A.R.E. The program, designed to alert young people to the detriments of drug usage, has proven to be very effective. Patrolman Kobler taught the five-week course at Gower West School and Hinsdale South High School.
Timothy Kobler is a member of the Village of Willowbrook's Safety Review Committee and a Trustee for the Police Pension Board. In 1996, he twice received the Police Department's Meritorious Award, once for apprehending an armed robber after a three-block chase and another time, for helping save the life of a man who had stopped breathing. His personal file contains numerous letters of commendation from citizens in the community, attesting to the quality of his work.
Davi nominated Kobler for the award, knowing him to be community-minded, hard-working, conscientious, and a caring person, who is especially dedicated to helping young people.
The 30,000-member Illinois State Bar Association, with offices in Springfield and Chicago, provides professional services to Illinois lawyers, and education and services to the public.
