John E. Thies Installed as President-Elect of Illinois State Bar Association

SPRINGFIELD, IL – Urbana attorney John E. Thies has moved up the organizational ladder of the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA), becoming president-elect of the organization.
 
Previously, he served as third and second vice president, and will be installed as president in June 2012.
 
Thies is a shareholder in the ten-member Urbana law firm of Webber & Thies, P.C., concentrating in business representation and general litigation. He has served on the ISBA Assembly since 1996 and as a member of the Board of Governors from 2001 to 2007, and since 2009.  A past chair of the Association’s Standing Committee on Membership and Bar Activities, he is also a past ISBA Treasurer and Secretary.
 
Thies serves on the Illinois Supreme Court Committee on Character and Fitness and the Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation board. Among other philanthropic activities, he is a past president of the Cunningham Children’s Home Foundation, and is a life fellow of the Illinois and American Bar Foundations.
 
He received his B.A. in Economics from Indiana University, with distinction, in 1984, and his J.D. in 1988 from the University of Illinois College of Law.
 
The 33,000-member ISBA, with offices in Springfield and Chicago, provides professional services to Illinois lawyers, and education and services to the public.
