Have you always wanted to be a published writer? The ISBA Newsletters provide a perfect opportunity!

With more than 40 titles publishing on various areas of the legal profession, you're bound to find a topic that suits you. Not sure to which section you should submit your article? Contact Katie Underwood, Newsletter Managing Editor for assistance.

Why should you write for a newsletter? ISBA newsletter authors are respected throughout the state as leaders in their profession. And what better way to get your name out to the community and advertise your knowledge—all without costing a penny! A recent survey showed that 75% of newsletter subscribers spend more than 10 minutes reading their issues, and one-third of these spend more than 15 minutes. Almost 75% of subscribers save or route their newsletters, so your article is bound to have a lasting impact on readers.

Not sure what to write about? Here's just a sampling of the types of articles you could provide:

  • Case updates
  • New/proposed legislation
  • News and trends in your area of practice
  • Book/product reviews
  • Letter to the editor

Each newsletter is published at least four times per year, and archived on the ISBA Web site. To see an index of past articles, click here.

Have an article ready for publication? Check out our Editorial policies to make sure it complies, then send it via e-mail attachment (preferably in Microsoft Word) to kunderwood@isba.org, or on disk via regular mail to:

Before an article can go to print, you need to have an author release form on file with the ISBA. A general release form may be signed only once and used for an unlimited number of articles. If you prefer to sign a single-use form, you'll need to sign additional forms for each article you want published. Send completed forms via regular mail to Katie Underwood at the address listed above.

Already published an article? As an author, you're entitled to receive five (5) free issues of the newsletter in which your article appears. You may order an unlimited number of additional copies of that newsletter, so long as they place their order before the newsletter goes to print. Orders placed after printing are subject to availability of that issue and/or additional costs. These copies will be mailed directly to you by the Publications Department.

Costs for additional newsletters:

$10 for the first 20 newsletters
$5 for each additional 20
