Does state need ConCon in 2010? Ballot to decideThe question of whether the Illinois State Bar Association should take a position on calling for a Constitutional Convention in 2010 will be deliberated by the ISBA Assembly during its meeting Saturday, June 28, at the Adam's Mark Hotel, St. Louis. Meanwhile, ISBA section councils and committees have been requested to study the issues and make recommendations in support or opposition. The ConCon question will appear on the general election ballot on Nov. 4. If it passes, two delegates will be elected from each senatorial district and subsequently will review the entire Illinois Constitution. A series of informative ConCon forums has been scheduled during the next three months by the Public Affairs Committee of the Union League Club of Chicago in partnership with the Civic Federation. The free programs are scheduled from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 18; Thursday, April 10, and Thursday, May 15, at the club. Panels that discuss procedures, structures and potential subjects for consideration at such a convention will include individuals who participated in the eventual rewrite of the Illinois Constitution in 1970. Continental breakfasts will be provided. Call (312) 435-5946 for reservations.
