McAndrews Pro Bono Awards available in 3 categories

The ISBA Committee on Delivery of Legal Services has set a deadline of Monday, March 31, for nominations to be submitted for John C. McAndrews Pro Bono Service Awards.

Named in memory of a former committee chair from Rock Island who died of cancer, the awards will be presented on Friday, June 27, at a luncheon during the ISBA Annual Meeting in St. Louis.

Nominations may be made for recognition in three categories: Individual Lawyer, Law Firm, and Bar Association. The criteria follow.

Individual Lawyer – An Illinois practitioner not employed by a legal aid organization but has provided significant direct representation in civil matters to eligible clients with no expectation of compensation, and/or has helped develop and implement legal service delivery programs or promoted legislation to enhance availability of legal services to the poor.

Law Firm – One that has its principle practice in Illinois, encourages and supports pro bono involvement by its lawyers, contributes to legal service programs and organizations, litigates significant pro bono cases, helps implement legal service programs and related legislation.

Bar Associations – One located in Illinois that encourages and supports pro bono involvement of members through written policy, develops and conducts programs in conjunction with legal service agencies, and demonstrates particularly worthy commitment to providing or enhancing representation of the poor.
