Lawyers hit ice in support of Chicago Legal Clinic

The Lawyers Hockey Team, a member of the Masters Hockey League, competed against a celebrity team on March 12 at the United Center to raise funds for the Chicago Legal Clinic.

Proceeds helped support the clinic’s advice desks in the Chancery Division and in the Domestic Relations Division Expedited Paternity and Child Support Section.

The soul of the lawyers’ team is its veteran goaltender, Thomas J. Paprocki, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago and founding CLC board president. He was dubbed “The Holy Goalie” by U.S.A. Hockey magazine.

Teammates are Cook County Associate Judge Thaddeus S. “Ted” Machnik, a past president of the Advocates Society; Steve Demitro, Michael Goldberg, John Muldoon, Jim Foley, Nicholas Labun, David Ploeg, Mike Quigley, Kent Sinson, Scott Sinson, Lowell Snorff and Patrick Thompson. The coach is David Goldman.

Chicago attorney William J. Martin coached the celebrity team, which included former Chicago Blackhawks stars Cliff Koroll, Grant Mulvey, Peter March and Reg Kerr. The puck was dropped by Chicago Bears legend Gale Sayers.

John McDonough, president of the Blackhawks, spoke during a dinner that followed the exhibition game. The Blackhawks played the Carolina Hurricanes after the event.
