Several ISBA election contests under waySeveral contested ISBA elections promise a spirited campaign season during the next two months. Photographs and biographies of candidates are published in the March issue of the ISBA Bar News beginning on page 5.(also click on “ISBA Elections” under Contents in the March Bar News on the website) In addition to a contest for third vice president between two members of the Board of Governors, multiple candidates have filed for all but one of six available positions on the board. As previously announced, ISBA board members John G. Locallo and Michele M. Jochner, both of Chicago, are vying for the office of third vice president that will lead to the presidency in 2011. Jochner is a law clerk for Illinois Supreme Court Justice Charles E. Freeman, and Locallo is a partner in Amari & Locallo. Nine candidates have filed for three Cook County board openings, including incumbents James J. Morici Jr. and Naomi H. Schuster. Among others are three former board members: Umberto S. Davi, Stephen M. Komie and Andrea M. Schleifer. Additional candidates for three-year terms on the board are Kimberly J. Anderson, Pamela J. Kuzniar, Keith A. Hebeisen and Mary Jane W. Theis. For the Area VII board seat (1st, 2nd and 4th Circuits), the only candidate is Shari R. Rhode of Carbondale, who was appointed to a vacancy last year. There are contested races for both Under-37 seats on the Board of Governors. In Cook County, they are Frank A. Sommario and Peter R. Olson; outside Cook County are April G. Troemper of Springfield and Christopher S. Haaff of Woodstock. Fifty Cook County candidates have filed for 26 three-year terms on the ISBA Assembly. Thirteen are incumbents, and several others have had prior service on the Assembly. There are two contested elections for one-year terms on law student seats on the Assembly, and two others are uncontested. Michael T. Mannion and Kenya N. Carter will vie for the Northern Illinois University College of Law seat. Cade Cummins and Natasha Bennett are candidates for the Valparaiso University Law School seat. Anthony A. Bruno of The John Marshall Law School and Ashley R. Niebur of the Southern Illinois University School of Law have no competition. No candidates filed for law student seats representing nine other affiliated schools. Eligible ISBA members whose dues are current will receive ballots and candidate information by mail shortly after April 1. Marked ballots must be returned by May 12.
