DuPage grants help advocates for the abused

The DuPage County Bar Foundation last month distributed grants totaling $7,500 to law-related organizations and other charitable initiatives.

An award of $3,000 was made to CASA of DuPage County for advocacy of the best interests of abused and neglected children in juvenile and family court systems through its Older Foster Youth program.

The foundation awarded $3,000 to the Special Ed Advocacy Center, which provides free legal representation to parents and caregivers of children who need special educational services because of disabilities.

A grant of $1,000 was made to the Northern Illinois University Foundation for the February 14 Student Scholarship Program that was created after shootings on the DeKalb campus.

The Naperville Heritage Society received $500 toward conservation and digitization of a 170-page manuscripts of weekly debates of the Naperville Lyceum since 1834.

Foundation President Glenn R. Gaffney of Glendale Heights said the grants “recognize and support local groups that address issues of vital concern to the public and our legal system.”
