ISBA Runners hit the harbor

The unofficial but collegial ISBA Sunday Runners (who always meet on Saturday mornings) started their season at 8 a.m. May 17 at Chicago’s Belmont Harbor, despite the chill of a spring that didn’t seem to want to leave winter behind.

A dozen brave souls participated, including Santiago, a high school exchange student from Colombia who was the guest of Tony Romanucci.

Leonard DeFranco, Romanucci and Santiago ran a brisk four miles, while Leonard Amari, Jack LaBrasca and Roberta Conwell did a two-mile jaunt. Power walkers were Kathy Anderson, Samuel Levine, Donna Amari, Tony Fornelli, Fran LaBrasca and Marvin Keeling.

The runners (and walkers) meet before 8 a.m. each Saturday at the harbor boaters’ north parking lot, just south of the Addison Street-Lake Shore Drive totem pole.

Lake Shore Drive access from the north is via the Irving Park Road exit. From the south, use the Recreation Drive exit north of Belmont.

The group convenes for breakfast after the outing, usually in the Bagel Restaurant at Broadway and Barry. All able bodies are invited. The group has one rule: If you come, you come. No RSVP is needed.
