Lawyers opt to speak in schools

Several members have signed up for “ISBA Lawyers in Classrooms,” but more are needed in this initiative to make differences in the lives of Illinois students and expand the potential for diversity in the profession.

The ISBA Committee on Law-Related Information for the Public is seeking volunteers to go back to school and speak about law-related subjects. A database of volunteers that can be searched geographically will be given to teachers.

The list also will be posted at www.isba.org/lawyersinclassrooms as a resource for educators who want speakers on specific subjects, and announcements will be sent to schools around the state.

Participating lawyers will make 30- to 60-minute talks on topics that include rules and substantive practice areas, constitutional issues and the Bill of Rights, and how to become a lawyer.

To sign up or obtain additional information, access the above Web site. A form can be downloaded, filled in and faxed to committee liaison Donna Schechter at (217) 525-9063.
