Several Southern Illinois Press books related to the life of Abraham Lincoln received recognition from the Illinois State Historical Society on April 26 during a Springfield program.

The society presented its Book of the Year Award to “The Madness of Mary Lincoln,” by SIU Press author Jason Emerson.

Other awards were given for “Abraham Lincoln: The Observations of John Nicolay and John Hay,” by Michael Burlingame; “Lincoln’s White House Secretary: The Ad-venturous Life of William O. Stoddard,” by Harold Holzer, and “Lincoln and Freedom: Slavery, Emancipation, and the 13th Amendment,” by Harold Holzer and Sara Vaughn Gabbard.
