State court e-links under wayThe Illinois Supreme Court hopes to phase in a uniform statewide electronic filing system for all of the state’s trial courts in three to five years. Announced May 23 by Chief Justice Robert R. Thomas, the technological infrastructure that is planned would link all courts of the 23 judicial circuits in 102 Illinois counties. “The implementation will require an immense effort,” Justice Thomas said, “but the benefits in more effectively and efficiently administering the ends of justice will be well worth it for all Illinois citizens.” The implementation will be coordinated by the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts, which has been in contact with several vendors to identify technologies for developing the database platform and statewide network.
