Bohemian bar aids scholars

The 97-year-old Bohemian Lawyers Association of Chicago awarded $2,000 scholarships to seven law students during its annual dinner on May 15 in North Riverside.

The recipients are Christopher Czernik and Steven Hurtuk of The John Marshall Law School, Julie Hodek and Molly Powers of the DePaul University College of Law, Janelle Skaloud of the Loyola University School of Law, James Ledvina of the Marquette University Law School, and Peter Slawniak of the Washington University School of Law and Policy.

John Marshall will match the scholarships of Czernik and Hurtuk, increasing them to $4,000 each, said Bohemian Lawyers past president Joseph F. Vosicky Jr.

The association presented its Liberty Award to Edward J. Dellin, chair of the Chicago-Prague Sister Cities Committee. Dellin’s efforts were lauded by Marek Skolil, consul general of the Czech Re--public.

Mila Gloria Novak was installed by Cook County Judge Jesse G. Reyes as president of the Bohemian Lawyers, succeeding Ann Melichar.

Judge Charles R. Winkler, a past president of the association, was appointed chair of its centennial celebration, which will take place in 2011.
