Court admits 765 new attorneys in five districts
The Illinois Supreme Court admitted 765 new attorneys in five ceremonies across the state on May 8. The largest group, 529 candidates, took the oath in Chicago’s Arie Crown Theater.
The motion on behalf of the 1st District class was made by Chicago attorney Kerry R. Peck, a member of the ISBA Elder Law Section Council and Illinois Bar Journal Editorial Board, whose daughter, Haley T. Peck, was admitted.
The motion was seconded by Prof. Ann M. Lousin of The John Marshall Law School, whose niece, Elizabeth M. AlDajani, was an admittee.
Welcoming remarks from the profession were provided by Marian E. Perkins of the Cook County Bar Association and Daniel T. Coyne of the Chicago Council of Lawyers.
ISBA President Joseph G. Bisceglia and representatives of 13 other bar associations were seated on the stage. Among them was Justinian Society President Mauro Glorioso, a member of the ISBA Board of Governors.
Supreme Court Justices Thomas R. Fitzgerald, Charles E. Freeman and Anne M. Burke conducted the ceremony. Joining them on stage were James R. Carroll, Lawrence N. Hill and Neil K. Quinn of the Illinois Board of Admissions to the Bar.
In the 3rd District, the admission ceremony was conducted by Appellate Justice Mary W. McDade. ISBA Second Vice President John G. O’Brien was guest speaker.
The motion to admit the class was made by 12th Circuit Associate Judge Dinah Lennon Archambeault. Her nephew, Jeffrey Michael Archambeault of Joliet was one of 22 new lawyers admitted in the Appellate Court Building in Ottawa.
The 2nd District ceremony at the Hemmens Memorial Building in Elgin was conducted by Appellate Justice Robert E. Byrne and attended by ISBA Secretary Richard D. Felice.
Justice Rita B. Garman convened the 4th District ceremony at the Supreme Court Building in Springfield. Carl R. Draper of the ISBA Board of Governors was present.
Justice Lloyd A. Karmeier presided during the 5th District ceremony at the Gateway Convention Center in Collinsville. ISBA President-elect Jack C. Carey spoke on behalf of the bar association.
