Day at Races touts kids' waiting roomsA social Day at the Races on Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Arlington Park Racecourse is the next event the ISBA Young Lawyers Division has planned to raise money for its Children's Assistance Fund. Administered by the Illinois Bar Foundation, the YLD fund provides supplies, games, books and furnishings for supervised courthouse waiting rooms in which children of litigants and witnesses can spend time. Scheduled from 12 noon to 5 p.m. on the racetrack's private Miller Party Deck, the Day at the Races includes food and refreshments from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. The Northwest Suburban Bar Association is a co-sponsor. The cost of $50 per person includes admission to the park, the daily racing guide, appetizers, beer, wine and soft drinks. Contact Janet M. Sosin at (312) 726-8775 or jsosin@isba.org to obtain a registration form. Tickets may be picked up at 11:30 a.m. on the day of the event at the grandstand entrance east of the Wilke Road entrance. For details, contact Meghan O'Brien at mobrien@ridgeassoc.com. Arlington Park enforces a strict dress code of business casual attire. No shorts, jeans, T-shirts or athletic shoes are permitted. Looking ahead, the annual YLD holiday party is scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at Joe's Bar on Weed Street, Chicago. And on Friday, June 5, the YLD will conduct a semi-formal Summer Soiree for networking from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. in the Chicago Cultural Center. Proceeds from both events will benefit the Children's Assistance Fund. Individual tax-deductible contributions also are welcomed.
