In Springfield, family tragedy spurs donations
A Springfield couple, two of whose children were killed by a falling tree during a vacation, were the beneficiaries of proceeds from the Sangamon County Bar Association's annual Play Day events on Aug. 1.
Bench and bar members donated $663, and the association added $337 to provide a total of $1,000 for Jason and Christina Stuebs.
Stuebs family members were sleeping at a campground in the Quad Cities on July 21, when strong winds toppled a tree on one of their tents. Two children died, but others, including two in a separate tent, were spared.
"Community groups and businesses continue to organize fund-raisers for the Springfield family," said Raylene DeWitte Grischow of Hinshaw & Culbertson, an ISBA Assembly member.
