ISBA to honor 133 members for 50 years of service

The list of 2008 Senior Counsellors of the Illinois State Bar Association reflects, in the aggregate, more than 6,600 years of service to the profession.

While some of our 50-year members have risen to heights of public acclaim as lawyers and jurists, many others have fulfilled community responsibilities of equal importance to the legal system.

One of the class that the ISBA will honor this year, Moses W. Harrison of Caseyville, became chief justice of the Illinois Supreme Court after years of contributions that included serving on the ISBA Board of Governors.

Arthur L. Berman of Chicago, whose e-mail address begins "senatorart," served in the Illinois Senate for more than 30 years and was a stalwart sponsor and supporter of education reform initiatives.

Benjamin S. Mackoff was presiding judge of the Cook County Domestic Relations Division before joining Schiller, DuCanto & Fleck to pioneer alternative dispute resolution of family law matters.

Edward R. Burr and James M. Bailey have retired from the Cook County bench after distinguished judicial careers, but Ronald S. Davis, a former ISBA board member, continues to sit in Law Division. Nicholas G. Byron of Edwardsville is a judge of the 3rd Circuit.

Neil K. Quinn of Pretzel & Stouffer, a Laureate of the ISBA Academy of Illinois Lawyers, is a member of the Illinois Board of Admissions to the Bar.

Marshall J. Hartman of Chicago, a legend of the state and national public defender bar for four decades, is an adjunct faculty member of the Chicago-Kent College of Law.

The 133-member Senior Counsellor list goes on, from Irwin C. Alter to Richard J. Zaborsky. Following alphabetically are the names of 50-year lawyers with Illinois addresses.
