Museum slates Lincoln events
The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield continues to present free programs about the aspects of the life of the 16th president.
At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, Gary Ecelberger, author of "The Great Comeback: How Abraham Lincoln Beat the Odds to Win the 1860 Republican Nomination," will speak.
At 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, the speaker is Roberta Seneschal, author of "In Lincoln's Shadow: The 1908 Race Riot in Springfield.
A pair of special social programs have been scheduled during the next few weeks, with $35 admission fees. They are:
Friday, Aug. 22, 6 p.m. – Mary Todd Lincoln's Blue Room Salon, a behind-the-scenes, 19th-century setting with experts in presidential politics and campaigning.
Saturday, Sept. 20, 2 p.m. – Saturday Afternoon Tea with Nancy Torgerson, a presentation on home life, schooling and entertainment of Lincoln-era children.
The museum's mobile exhibit, Abraham Lincoln: Self Made in America, may be visited during the Illinois State Fair, which concludes Aug. 17.
Other stops on its bicentennial tour include the Democratic National Convention Aug. 20-27 in Denver, and the Republican National Convention Aug. 29-Sept. 4 in Minneapolis-St. Paul.
The exhibit also will be present Oct. 2-5 during the 150th Lincoln-Douglas Debate Festival in Galesburg.
