Animal cruelty issues aired
The day-long program, “Prosecuting and Representing Animal Abusers and Caring for the Victims,” will take place Friday, Sept. 19, at the DePaul University College of Law.
Sponsored by the Animal Law Committee of the American Bar Association Section of Tort Trial and Insurance Practice, the program will deal with specifics of “The Michael Vick Case and Its Impact on Cruelty Cases.”
Speakers include prosecutors, defense lawyers, forensic veterinarians, academics, animal rights advocates and health professionals.
Among them are Madison County assistant state’s attorney Amy Maher of Edwardsville, Adams County assistant state’s attorney Jennifer L. Cifaldi of Quincy, and Prof. Rebecca Huss of the Valparaiso University School of Law.
The program moderator is Maryville attorney Elise Ledy VanKavage, senior director of legal training and legislation for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
