Perinatal depression to be aired

Houston criminal defense attorney George J. Parnham will speak Friday, Oct. 17, at the University Club of Chicago on legal issues resulting from postpartum depression among mothers.

Parnham will be keynote luncheon speaker during the third annual Perinatal Depression Conference of the Jennifer Mudd Houghtailing Postpartum Depression Foundation.

Lead counsel for Andrea Pia Yates after the deaths of her five children, Parnham is a sponsor of the Yates Children Memorial Fund that was created in 2002 by the Mental Health Association of Greater Houston to fund mental health education for women.

A 1970 graduate of the University of Texas School of Law, he has received a Jefferson Award and a Clarence Darrow Award, and was named Houston Press Criminal Defense Lawyer of the Year in 2002.

Parnham has lectured extensively on the Yates case and related issues, but this will be his first appearance in Chicago. For more information or conference registration details, call (312) 567-5470.
