September 2008 Trial skills classes begin, but new students can enroll Prospective students for the current semester of Fred Lane’s ISBA Trial Technique Institute who have not yet enrolled may still attend one session at no charge. Although the fall schedule of classes in the nine-month curriculum began Sept. 9 in the Chicago Regional Office, new students are still invited to sign up. The weekly 90-minute sessions begin at 5:15 p.m. each Tuesday. The two-semester curriculum consists of 54 hours of MCLE credit. Attendance also counts toward admission to the Federal Trial Bar in the Northern District. Participants learn the finer points of trial practice and courtroom presentation styles for both plaintiff and defense litigation. Each class is videotaped so a student may review progress as the course progresses, or make up by appointment for missing a session. Co-directors are Fred Lane, a past president of the Illinois State Bar Association and Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and Scott D. Lane, a member of the Tort Law Section Council. Occasional guest faculty members include trial attorneys Philip H. Corboy, Robert Clifford, Kevin T. Martin, Joseph A. Power, Pamela L. Gellen and Andrew Kopon Jr., and Appellate Justices Warren D. Wolfson and Michael J. Gallagher. For registration details, call (312) 726-8775, access www.isba.org/trial, or check the announcement on page 11. The fees are $875 for ISBA members and $1,200 for non-members.
