Young Lawyers events fund courthouse waiting rooms

Funding for projects such as construction in Peoria of a new courthouse waiting room for children is made possible by benefits conducted by the ISBA Young Lawyers Division/Illinois Bar Foundation Children’s Assistance Fund.

A grant of $5,000 for the Peoria County Courthouse project was approved last month. The supervised waiting room will be a safe place for children whose parents or guardians are involved in court proceedings.

It will ensure that children in its care are protected from confusing, frightening and inappropriate adult behavior.

The facility, located in room 423, will accommodate children of ages 2 to 12. It will be divided into separate areas for pre-school and school-age youngsters.

The coordinating committee, chaired by Peter R. Jennetten of Quinn, Johnston, Henderson & Pretorius, has set a budget of $6,000 to provide furniture, toys, games, books, DVDs and monitors, activity mats and storage units.
