False confession issues discussed Nov. 10 at UIS

A foremost expert on the problem and psychology of false confessions will speak Monday, Nov. 10, in Springfield during a program conducted by the Downstate Illinois Innocence Project.

The lecture by Richard Leo, an associate law professor at the University of San Francisco, will begin at 7:15 p.m. in the Great Room of Lincoln Residence Hall at the University of Illinois, in conjunction with a wrongful convictions class.

Leo is a former associate professor of criminology, law and society and assistant professor of psychology and social behavior at UCLA-Irvine.

He has advanced degrees in sociology and law, and has written four books on the impact of police interrogations in the justice system.

While in Springfield, Leo will consult with the Innocence Project on some of its cases.
