Court to receive bust of Lincoln

On the first day of the January term of the Illinois Supreme Court, the Illinois State Bar Association will present a bronze bust of Abraham Lincoln during a special session of the court.

The ISBA Board of Governors will attend the Springfield ceremony, which is scheduled at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12. Also present will be the sculptor, John McClarey.

The bust, depicting Lincoln as he appeared in 1859, is titled “Prairie Lawyer: Master of Us All,” an allusion to a line in the 1914 poem, “Abraham Lincoln Walks at Midnight,” by Vachel Lindsay (see page 9).

Rockford attorney Thomas S. Johnson chairs the ISBA Special Committee on the Lincoln Bicentennial, which has planned several activities to commemorate President Lincoln’s 200th birthday.
