McAndrews Awards to honor significant pro bono work

John C. McAndrews Pro Bono Service Awards will be presented in three categories in June during the ISBA Annual Meeting at The Abbey Resort in Wisconsin. The deadline for nominations is Monday, March 16.

The categories in which nominations may be made are: Individual Lawyer, Bar Association, and Law Firm and Corporate Law Department. Criteria follow.

Individual Lawyer: Illinois practitioner not employed full-time by a legal service agency, who provides direct representation in civil matters to eligible clients with no expectation of fee, and has contributed significant hours of pro bono.

The nominee also may have successfully litigated pro bono cases, worked on legislation, or developed innovative approaches that enhance availability of legal services to the indigent.

Bar Association: Affiliated with ISBA, encourages and supports written policy on pro bono by members, partners with legal aid offices, develops or adopts a free legal clinic, demonstrates particularly worthy commitment to pro bono.

Law Firm and Corporate Law Department: Encourages and supports in written policy on pro bono by members, supports organized programs, successfully litigates cases or works on legislation that enhance pro bono service.

Nominations should be submitted with the form, accessible at www.isba.org/awards, and sufficient supporting documentation. The Committee on Delivery of Legal Services will select the winners and invite them to attend the awards luncheon.
