Writing awards bestowed
Kerry J. Bryson of the Office of State Appellate Defender in Ottawa has won the annual ISBA Lincoln Award Legal Writing Contest. Bryson’s first place article is “Crawford, Davis and Giles: The Confrontation Clause Trifecta.”
A former member of the ISBA Committee on Corrections and Sentencing, he receives a $2,000 stipend and a plaque that will be presented during the ISBA Annual Meeting in June at The Abbey Resort in Wisconsin.
Taking second place of $1,000 is George L. Schoenbeck of Sosin & Arnold, Palos Heights, for his article titled “Six Years After Klaeren: How Illinois Has Adapted.” It will be published in the February issue of the Illinois Bar Journal.
Third place honors and $500 go to Isaac J. Colunga of Chicago for “Inactive Client Relationships May Still Result in per se Conflicts of Interest.”
The annual writing competition among young lawyers is sponsored by the Illinois Bar Journal Editorial Board. Twenty manuscripts were submitted in the 2009 contest. For more information, send an e-mail to mmathewson@isba.org.
