Award programs to honor public service initiative

Nominations are being accepted for awards that will be presented on June 26 during the ISBA Annual Meeting at The Abbey Resort in Fontana, Wis. Access www.isba.org for details.

General Practice

The Matthew Maloney Tradition of Excellence Award is sponsored by the General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Section. The deadline for nominations is Friday, March 20.

Nominees must be ISBA members who have been in general practice for at least 20 years and have made significant contributions to the profession and community.

Community Leadership

The Community Leadership Award is sponsored by the Committee on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity. The nomination deadline is Friday, April 10.

Nominees should be lawyers, judges, educators, or members of legislative bodies or community activist groups who have worked to eliminate discrimination and to foster understanding of legal issues of concern to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

Young Lawyers

The Young Lawyers Division makes two Young Lawyer of the Year Awards – one in Cook County and one from outside Cook County. The nomination deadlines are Friday, April 17.

Nominees must be ISBA members under age 36 who have achieved excellence in litigation, advocacy or counseling, and have contributed to the profession through public service and pro bono activity.

Law Students

Each of the ISBA-affiliated law schools may nominate a candidate for the Law Student Division Public Service Award. The deadline is Friday, April 17.

Nominees must be members of the ISBA Law Student Division who have excelled academically and have been involved in public service activities. The award recipient will be selected from the finalists from each law school.

The award recipient will be invited to attend the ISBA Annual Meeting. A $250 donation will be made to the organization of the honoree’s choice. Each finalist will receive a plaque.

Pro bono service

John C. McAndrews Pro Bono Service Award nominations must be submitted by Monday, March 16. Awards are given in three categories: Individual Lawyer, Bar Association, and Law Firm or Corporate Law Department.

Nominations should be submitted with the appropriate form and sufficient supporting documentation.
