CARPLS needs idle lawyers to volunteer

CARPLS – the Coordinated Advice and Referral Program for Legal Services in Cook County – is offering opportunities for unemployed licensed attorneys to share expertise by counseling low-income families that need assistance during difficult economic times.

Volunteers will be trained in such limited practice areas as family law, consumer debt and landlord-tenant matters before they begin answering phone calls from clients.

CARPLS provides support from staff members and malpractice insurance coverage for volunteers who want to make productive use of their legal skills by providing invaluable service.

Participants also will be able to network with peers and circulate resumes to members of the CARPLS board and associate board who practice in law firms and corporate law departments.

Interested attorneys may e-mail resumes to sberube@carpls.org or mail them to CARPLS Works, Suite 1850, 17 N. State St., Chicago 60602. Call (312) 421-4011 for additional information.
