133rd ISBA Annual Meeting kicks off new year activity
A new year for the Illinois State Bar Association comes with formulation of programs and initiatives by committees and sections, and the installation of an inspired leadership team.
This movement forward takes place during the ISBA Annual Meeting – this year the 133rd, from June 25 to 27 at the Abbey Resort in Fontana, Wis.
Business meetings all three days complement the semi-annual convening of the 201-member ISBA Assembly on Saturday morning. Exhibits by affiliated vendors of products and services are scheduled on Friday.
The opening reception on Thursday evening, sponsored by the ISBA Mutual Insurance Co., includes many activities for children, too.
Also scheduled Thursday is the popular workshop on opportunities for lawyers to become law school faculty members. The Southern Illinois University School of Law is the sponsor.
A breakfast symposium on Friday morning, “Understanding the Dowling Retainer Rules,” is conducted by the Committee on Law Office Management and Economics.
Also on the Friday agenda is a repeat performance of the video seminar, “Lessons in Professional Responsibility Learned from the Illinois Law Practice of Abraham Lincoln.”
The annual awards luncheon on Friday will see many dedicated lawyers and law students honored for professional achievements and public service.
Arlington Heights attorney John G. O’Brien will be installed as president during the Friday banquet, as Jack C. Carey of Belleville is thanked for his tenure in office.
Before the Assembly meeting on Saturday, a 14th annual networking breakfast is offered by the Committee on Women and the Law, the Committee on Minority and Women Participation and the SIU School of Law.
Programs for children include a day camp on Friday for ages 4 to 12, and Friday night hospitality for teens and pre-teens.
