Farewell to Bar News in June

The ISBA Bar News, which has kept members informed about the association and the profession for the past 49 years, will cease publication with the June 2009 issue.

Other ISBA publications, and a new electronic publication called “Illinois Lawyer Now,” will continue to provide members with vital news about the ISBA and the practice of law.

The final issue of the Bar News coincides with the retirement at the end of June of its editor, Stephen Anderson, who has been on the ISBA staff since 1988.

“Illinois Lawyer Now” will be a frequently updated electronic publication featuring news about ISBA events and programs, practice developments, legislation, substantive law, and other items of interest. Members will be able to post comments, photos and other content.

“Electronic communication offers immediacy, convenience and cost savings,” said ISBA President-elect John G. O’Brien. “Steve Anderson has done an extraordinary job of keeping members informed as editor of the Bar News, but the time is right to move into a new media mix to meet our members’ needs.”

Members also will receive a new print publication called “Illinois Lawyer Now Quarterly.” The quarterly will focus on member services, including up-to-date Law Ed seminar listings, and ISBA elections in the spring.
